05/24/98: Watch out -- we're going professional! the den (that's the ad network we're a part of) is getting a preview at this year's E3 convention (that's Electronic Entertainment Expo for those who'd rather waste their time with pornography instead of games). Now, we've heard concerns expressed that Oh, the Humanity! isn't quite as professional as the other affiliates at the den. So, we're trying out an ultra-hip new format -- see what you think as OTH goes trendy!(legally, it should be noted that the den has in no way expressed disatisfaction with us and we're just using it as a lame joke premise) Speaking of E3, I wish I was going. Sure, it'll be packed with the standard complement of industry expert attendees ("So you see, the 'games about girls with big boobs and guns' trend is going the way of the dodo -- this year's buzzword is Edutainment!") -- I hope Marc Andreesen shows up so I can get him to autograph my Mozilla poster! But word has it that Gillian Anderson is going to make an appearance at the Fox booth this year -- so we'll also get a good mix of dorks, dweebs, ass-bastards, gek-nerds, sub-nerds and good old fashioned paranoid geeks. Enter Rob's review of Mazes and Monsters, and we've got a whole week of dorkdom. Nota bene: please start using the term "ass-bastard" in your daily life. Back to Gillian. In honor of her appearance at E3, we are refraining from making any jokes about The Turning for ONE WHOLE WEEK! Special bonus: we also won't make fun of her unforgivable appearance in that British video. Although, who could wait for the follow up album, Extremis 2: Pornograffiti? Hole hearted, hole hear-ar-ted! Ahhhh, Nuno Bettencourt -- why do I still know your name? Now, about the student film submissions. Where are they, you ask? Our answer -- they're coming!! We plan on giving these babies the right treatment, and we've hit a couple snags along the way. These are the 3 big reasons why they ain't up yet: 1. Rob's graduating. He hasn't had a lot of time lately, and the Student Films thing is sort of his own bag. 2. Alan's pretending he's graduating and has gone on a Slurpee binge. Isn't that sad? 3. Rob has all the video tapes, and Alan has the video capture card. Technical difficulties ensue from this combination. In the next few weeks, we'll get it together and capture those precious moments for everyone to see. After all, chances are few people in the world have seen these junior masterpieces, and we want to do all we can to make it good. So: Student film submitters, we apologize for the delay. Gillian Anderson fans, please endorse us during your next moderated chat session with her on AOL (here's a tip, DON'T offer to have sex with her -- let her come on to you!). E3 conventioneers, start buying stock in whatever company is doing retro games (I gotta feeling "Chase the Chuckwagon 3D" is going to be a big hit) -- and try not to faint if you walk by a cardboard stand-up of Lara Croft.
