Picture it: stars from your favourite 80's sitcoms are all trying to deal with the most important issue of high school: what to do about the prom! If you don't love this movie already, then I'm sure a few names will make you change your mind. Alyssa Milano (pretty, popular girl), Chris Young (geek boy), Tracy Gold (artsy, geeky girl), Brian Bloom (pretty, popular boy), Christina Applegate (bitchy, popular girl), Tempestt Bledsoe (geeky girl's friend), not to mention Alan Thicke and Kelsey Grammer as random parents! The plot (cause it's oh so crucial) essentially revolves around the popular boy dumping the popular girl right before the prom because he wants to have some prom night sex. Will he go out with the artsy girl, thinking she's easy? Will he later realize he likes her despite her geekiness? Will the popular girl go to the movies rather than tell anyone she got dumped before the prom? Will she meet the geeky guy and fall in love? Will the geeky girl surprise everyone and be the most beautiful girl at the prom? Will bitchy girl's fancy party turn into a party with underwear hanging from a tree? A bunch of stuff happens with the adults too, but that's really just filler. This is an 80's tv movie, so there's no sex, but everyone tries to have some and that counts for something. This movie is fabulous. The dialogue is horrible, the acting is EXACTLY what you'd expect, and the plot is so predictable you know what's going to happen minutes before it does. What more can you look for in a movie about the prom? Realism?? I think not. It's been on tv a couple times since it's original 88 release, and I highly recommend you watch it if it does come on. It'll remind you how your high school experience sucked in comparison to tv and movies. Oh, added bonus: Matthew Perry, of Friends fame, plays Christina Applegate's boyfriend who wants to be a fireman!! Good times, good times.
