Review:
I don't like Nicholas Cage. I don't like Joel Shumacher films. Why did I rent this movie? It's beyond me, I guess because "A Simple Plan" was out. This movie uses the old, "main character gets into deep" situation and goes a little crazy senario. Nick Cage plays a private detective hired to investigate why a recently deceased elderly rich man has a Snuff Film locked away in a safe in his mansion. Snuff Films being porno where a girl is raped then killed on film (they are supposed myths and do not exsist). But this film appears all to real and Cage is hired by the rich old guys wife to investigate into the seedy underbelly of the New York and LA adult film industry about the film. This film was totally unbelieveable. First of all, the crime happened six years prior to finding the 8MM snuff film. He happens to find this girl out of thousands of missing persons pictures, then finds her mom to question her. Then while digging in the attic of her house, happens to find the girls diary in a ziplock bag inside the back of a toilet saying that she is going to California to be a film star. He follows a bunch of needle-in-the-haystack leads that leads him to the killers. And since Cage has experienced so much underground porn and violence it somehow gets to him and makes him kill the people who killed the girl. But the character Machine is kind of cool. Oh yeah, everyone in this movie is white, I swear. It's a very white film they have put together. There is also a not very interesting subplot involving Cage's dwindling marrige because of being away from his wife. I don't know, maybe you liked this movie. Maybe my comments are hasty generalizations and are not thought out. But I saw Con Air people. Oh yes, my brothers, I have seen Batman and Robin. And because of it, there is a part of my soul I can never get back. So hell yeah I hold a grudge against Cage and Shumacher. Sue me. I'm going to bed.
