Despite its snub at the Oscars, Anaconda still has my vote as one of the best films to come out in the past five years. This movie has everything: Kari "va-va-voom" Wuhrer, the lady that played Selena, Eric Stoltz, and...(this is the best part) ICE CUBE as "Danny" the Documentary Cameraman. Oh yeah, Jon Voight is in this movie too, having flashbacks to Deliverance as he trolls down the river. No dueling banjos in this movie, however, just a weak plot that provides an excuse for us to witness a gimpy computer animated snake in action. Screw "Miller Time" - it doesn't get any better than THIS. Eric Stoltz, who obviously has a very good agent, gets to take the high road by avoiding the whole business with the giant snake because he spends most of the movie passed out from some sort of Jungle Poison or something. What's really important (other than Kari's inappropriately skimpy outfits for an expedition of this nature) is the conflict between Selena and Jon Voight. Predictably, the good guys win (although Cube never gets to put a cap in the snake's ass) but not before you get to see a snake eat people and spit them out. There is a notable lack of nudity (particuarly from Kari) but the inclusion of Ice Cube and the big snake more than compensate for this gaping flaw in the script. About the author: Charlie Oliver is a powerful barbarian who fears magic. His parents were slain in front of him as infidels burned his village. Mr. Oliver was forced to walk the wheel of torture and, over time, grew powerful and vengeful. Some day he hopes to topple the tyrants that have wronged him.
