Review:
This is a film about a bunch of kids at an alternative school on an Indian reservation, their pacifist teacher, and some local bigots who are harassing the school. In segments that nowadays look like somebody's bad home movies, the kids spend a lot of screen time doing skits and pantomime. A film with this premise would merely be boring, so how better to spice it up than by throwing in an ex-Green Beret, martial arts expert to keep the local bigots in line? An ex-Green Beret martial arts expert at a pacifist freedom school - huh? When Billy Jack appears the film gets exciting, right? Wrong. It is at those moments that the film gets unintentionally hilarious. You see, Billy just-goes-ber-SERK!, and when he takes off his boots you will want to watch his feet 'cause he'll kill you with his feet. You'll laugh so hard at some of the dialogue that you'll drive your car into the lake, and there's not a damn thing you're going to be able to do about it. Really! Things to watch for: Flour getting poured all over the Native American kids at the ice cream shop. Billy Jack just-going-ber-SERK! in response. Billy taking his right foot and whopping a guy on the side of his face. The hilariously bad job of overdubbing dialogue during the city council meeting. The obligatory vision quest segment and Billy channelling an ancient Indian chief afterward. The obligatory alienated-ex-Green-Beret-holes-up-in-bunker-fending-off-the-feds ending.
