I like a thriller monster movie as mich as the next guy, but Anaconda is a real stinker. Maybe I was disappointed because I was expecting so much more from a big studio release. Beginning with one of the lamest cast (these guys couldn't have gotten walk-ons on Starship Troopers), the movie proceeds through one of the most unbelievable plots imaginable. Throw in some really bad fake snake special effects and this one definitely ends up on my top 100 worst list. A better screenplay relying more on the real danger of big snakes would have been scary enough, but by giving the protagonist snake some sort of special intelligence and powers takes the viewer so far beyond believability that the movie is mostly laughable and a waste of even $2 for a rental. It's too bad, too. The silent, stalking, unseen killer theme idea has a lot of potential for a decent thriller in a Jaws sort of way. It's a shame they wasted it with this crap.
