The longer than long awaited sequel to John Landis' 1981 comedy/horror classic An American Werewolf in London doesn't really live up to its predecessor. The simple story consists of three American college boys on a big European tour in which they commit dangerous acts. Andy (Scott from That Thing You Do) is about to bungee jump off the Eiffel Tower when he spies the beautiful Serafine (Before Sunrise's Delpy) about to jump to her death. Obviously he saves her life, and the story takes off from there. There's plenty of visual effects as the werewolf story kicks in, and suffice it to say some pretty handy morphing, continuing the original's tradition of cutting-edge SFX. But the film unfortunately never really engages the audience. Delpy is fine as the troubled maiden but Tom Hanks goofalike Scott grates as the dopey Andy. The supporting cast vary greatly with Vince Vieluf and Tom Novembre providing modestly amusing turns as Andy's buddy and a local inspector respectively. Director Waller has taken a large step down from the excellent Mute Witness and hopefully in doing so, has put a halt to the American Werewolf series. Then again there are more than two Iron Eagles. Get it on video. My conclusion: AAARRRGH. Je bash le moo-vee. Kill that asshole! About the author: It's a fun job badmouthing crappy movies, but someone's gotta do it.
