'What A Dump' proclaims Rosa Moline (Bette Davis) - You could mistakenly believe she is talking about this classic bad movie but she is in fact referring to her home. Universally regarded as the most dire picture Davis ever appeared in (although the 1971 'Bunny O'Hare must come pretty close!) 'Beyond The Forest' is still treasured by her many fans. Ironically, she made what many regard as her best picture the following year (1950's 'All About Eve') Here she plays the ultimate slut - laughingly described in a Warner Brothers promo as 'The 9 O'clock girl in the 5 O'clock town'. If you're ever with a friend at the videostore who wants asks 'What's a really trashy old melodrama we can get our hands on?' look no further than this film. No doubt, Jack Warner, tired of Bette Davis' tantrums decided he would have the last laugh by forcing her into this fleapit. However video viewers, if this is the type of entertainment you're looking for, you'll certainly get your moneys worth - Bette with her tweezed brows and Morticia Adams type wig shooting porcuoines, murdering a witness to her adulterous affair, getting pregnant, and taking poison. The dialogue is priceless - 'You're something for the birds.' says a character of Rosa Moline to which she replies 'And you're something to make the corn grow tall' she replies. Ludicrous and completely overblown, I wouldn't have missed it for quits!! About the author: Loves 'Beyond The Forest'. Enough said?? You may read another review, submit your own, or return home. |
