Review:
A film about addiction(s) - could apply to anything - gambling, pornography, picking of the nose (but maybe not eating it...). On a dumbo drive-in level, it's all black pins, white pins, big map - upon reflection, it speaks of the use/misuse of power(s), individual limitations & that foundation of Western Civilization: GUILT. The thing just builds & builds like a dream assembled by dead composers - BUT, then lets us all off the hook with "rational" policebore explanation; which, is not a little implausible. But, Christ, the scene where he thinks his "friends" have busted out of their premature graves... Interesting use of (what would've been) "underground" techniques of editing & visual manipulation, should have seen Bury as portent of music-video aesthetic. What kept us up in the early hours was the pleasure implied in living in a cemetery; a "world" far removed from goalseeking activities & yet testament to man's (or, if u prefer, person's) inescapable closure: death. Strange stuff that improves upon each viewing, despite wretched noisef***** VHS dupe.
