Review:
After seemingly endless weeks (in Australia...) it appears the obscene Money Machine that powered supposed paean to "Girl Power" (or whatever other bulls*** label Pop Feminism oozes under these days...) Charlie's Angels has finally staggered to a satiated halt. Sure, we'll still have to suffer thru a few hundred more airings of that "great" Destiny's Child toon, but, it looks as if the coast is now clear... at least until the sequel arrives. Having made use of my right as a consumer (about the only real right left in this authoritarian nightmare we call civilization...) to avoid Angels, this uninitiated soul was still unable to escape the ravaging effects of ink-clouds of hype as all foul limbs of the grotesque media octopus squeezed the last drops from any & all promo avenues. Of course, it would be wrong to condemn something I haven't watched (a rule "The Media" never seem to abide by) however, as implied, one would have had to be in the midst of a blackout not to have endured portions of this effort - Diaz in a black wig (looking suspiciously like Courteney Cox) tooling around in an F1, Lui (or is it Liu??) whipping a desk (oooooooo!!!), Barrymore licking something (I think it was some car upholstery), Diaz shaking her bottom, all three chiming in with the "Good Morning Charlie" mantra (or words to that effect; I'm no f****** purist...) & even old Murray in some kind of sumo get-up. Various people have suggested that the "fight scenes" in Angels are derived from The Matrix (another film I've chosen to ignore); all well & good, but here we encounter my Biggest Problem with Angels. Male dominated action films (serious or Steven Seagal...) always, without fail, feature the "hero" kicking, beating, shooting, burning, slicing, choking, bruising other men. So, using my unpop sense of logic & fairplay, wouldn't it make sense if one was to helm a female dominated action film, to have the "hero" kicking, beating, shooting, blah blah blah other WOMEN?? Imagine how much better it would have been if we could have cheered while various "bad" females were kicked & punched for our entertainment. If that's a no-go area for "Girl Power" to embrace, why not have three "attractive" men who sexually manipulate dumb, prurient women then kick the s*** out of them - all for fun of course, nothing nasty, just good old "low-level", firearm-free violence for the masses. How about it Hollywood?? Note: the "10" rating is given for the promotion of the film; a great effort...
