It started when Alan inherited his family's collection of 8mm and Super8
home movies. It grew on him when he was sitting in McCormick theatre,
engrossed in the flickering light of B-Fest movies. It hit him in the
face when he got a cool old stand up white screen for projectors. It
exploded before him when he saw one of those "ye olde time nickelodeon"
popcorn carts on the Price is Right and he realized, "Forget
your DVDs and surround sound, I want film!"
So began my quest for crappy old 16mm films to preserve (well, keep
in a box) and make fun of. Why not Super8? Not long enough (the
films are usually excerpts), and I don't have a sound projector. Why
not 35mm? Too expensive, again no projector. Well, okay, I don't
have a 16mm projector yet either but one is coming real soon.
If my sister is reading this, why haven't you stolen that projector
for me yet? Once I get this going, I should have some sound
clips and maybe even video captures from a camera.
- Update 04/24/98 : Got my first glimpses of the educational shorts
from a borrowed 16mm projector today. As hoped, Person to Person
is largely hilarious (the Rod Serling narration lowers him in my
esteem). Hopefully, I'll get a permanent projector of my own soon!
- I realize there's nothing here yet, that's because I don't
have any movies! Although I do have a few educational shorts (I'm
hoping "Person to Person--Making communication work for you" turns
out to be amusing), I need features! I'm looking for obscure (okay,
just crappy) sci-fi and horror films on 16mm film. Trouble is, I
gots no money, baby. Know any places on the net (I'm unable to speak
over the phone due to my shyness) to get some films on the cheap
(student without steady employment cheap)? Email me at
